NSCAC in attendance at Robbie International Youth Tournament

The NSCAC was proud to attend the media kickoff to the 51st annual Robbie Soccer Tournament, the world’s largest international youth tournament for charity. NSCAC Director of Marketing & Communications Alf De Blasis was honoured to serve as MC for the event, which kicked off a Canada Day long weekend of activity across the Greater Toronto Area. NSCAC Executive Director John DeBenedictis and member coach Gerald Pezet (pictured below) staffed a desk at Robbie headquarters at the Delta East Hotel in Scarborough as representatives from more than 150 teams filed in to collect their welcome packages which included a NSCAC membership form. The Robbie has been the recipient of numerous distinctions over the years, including the first Ontario Soccer Centre Circle Award, a star on Scarborough’s Walk of Fame for its community building efforts, and induction into the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame in 2014.

Canadian Arena Soccer Association joins national soccer landscape

Mississauga, ON hosted the official unveiling of the newly established Canadian Arena Soccer Association (CASA) and the National Arena Soccer Team (group picture at left). NSCAC executives were in attendance as the CASA made several significant announcements, including its first National Team Technical Director, indoor soccer superstar and Mississauga’s own Hector Marinaro Jr., and its first National Team Head Coach, Giuliano Oliviero, a veteran of indoor and outdoor soccer in Canada and the US. CASA also announced it will be participating at

the 2018 World Cup of Arena Soccer in Mexico and will also stage an international friendly vs Mexico on Oct. 1 at Mississauga’s Hershey Centre, the official national team headquarters and training site. Tickets to that event will go on sale Aug. 1. NSCAC invites members to attend a special clinic in September

The NSCAC would also like to invite its members to a special coaches clinic in September. Sports scientist Richard Bucciarelli (pictured at left and below), owner of Soccer Fitness Inc., who joined our June 10 clinic in Thornhill, will return to conduct a clinic based on research he and his colleagues presented at the World Conference on Science and Soccer in Rennes, France last month. Richard’s 3-hour clinic will focus on three different research studies including:

  1. Effectiveness of speed endurance vs. plyometric training on speed, power and high-intensity running ability in elite Canadian youth female soccer players.

  2. A comparison of speed and high intensity running ability between Canadian and Uruguayan professional academy soccer players.

  3. Match Analysis of a Canadian Women’s University Soccer Team over the course of a full competitive season.

We urge our members to attend this unique clinic that combines a

classroom lecture with an on-field component demonstrating the training protocols from the first study. The exact date and location of the clinic will be confirmed in the coming days and member coaches can register by visiting our website, nscac.ca.
